Ride & Seek, the renowned adventure cycling company, has unveiled its latest epic cycling adventure, the Berlin-to-Budapest “Iron Curtain” tour. Spanning nearly 1,000 miles and connecting five capitals and five distinct cultures, this tour offers a unique journey through a historic period that shaped the world. Beginning in Berlin, where the fall of the Berlin Wall marked the end of the Cold War, the trip follows some of Europe’s finest cycling routes, traversing Western Europe and former Soviet Union territories. The tour is divided into two stages: Berlin to Prague over eight days and Prague to Budapest over 11 days, from August 12-30, 2023.
“The Berlin-to-Budapest tour is an exciting opportunity to explore the transition from communism to democratic capitalism,” said Dylan Reynolds, the founder of Ride & Seek. “The tour immerses cyclists in the palpable history of the region. Unlike our other historic cycling adventures, many of our clients witnessed the collapse of the Iron Curtain firsthand.”
During the tour, guests will pedal past majestic palaces and through picturesque Sorbian villages until they reach the Polish border. In the Czech Republic, they will cycle through the romantic countryside of the Czech Middle Mountains and follow the enchanting banks of the Elbe River. The scenic Bohemian landscapes offer tranquil cycling experiences amidst stunning castles, medieval towns, and Renaissance architecture. Along the Austrian border, riders will encounter well-preserved fortifications from the early days of World War II. Austria reveals wooded hillsides and verdant meadows, leading cyclists to the Danube River and into the captivating city of Vienna via meticulously maintained cycle paths.
From one capital to the next, participants will follow the Danube River, passing opulent palaces belonging to Vienna’s nobility before arriving in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The journey continues through Hungary to the baroque city of Györ, traversing rolling hills renowned for their racehorse studs. Returning to the Danube River, the final leg of the tour unveils one of the most scenic sections of the river, with its steep hills and breathtaking meanders guiding cyclists into the vibrant heart of Budapest.
“For beer enthusiasts, this trip is a delight,” Reynolds added. “Each country we travel through claims to have the best beer in the world, but the final verdict is up to our guests to decide.”
