Rhode Island’s Premier Comedians to Host Late Night Cabaret at Theatre By The Sea

Theatre By The Sea’s Late Night Cabaret has returned. Adding to the excitement of the 90th Anniversary season, the Late Night Cabaret will feature not one, but three of Rhode Island’s most beloved comedians: Poppy Champlin, Doreen Collins, and Frank O’Donnell. This entertaining event will take place at the theatre’s on-site restaurant, Bravo By The Sea.

Bill Hanney expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I love the Late Night Cabaret. I am so happy we are finally able to bring it back this season, and not with just one or two hosts, but this year, for the 90th Anniversary, we’re having three hosts! I can’t wait!”

Poppy Champlin, a graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a BFA in Theatre, brings her exceptional talent to the stage. With a successful stand-up career spanning from Rhode Island to New York to California, Champlin is known for her wit and musical comedy. Recently inducted into the Rhode Island Comedy Hall of Fame, she is thrilled to return to Theatre By The Sea and the Late Night Cabaret.

Doreen Collins, an NYU theater major and a 40-year SAG-AFTRA member, holds the distinction of being the first female inducted into the Rhode Island Comedy Hall of Fame. As the producer of the annual all-female comedy show, The Ladies Room, she advocates for female comics and female-owned businesses. Collins has an impressive repertoire, having produced, directed, and hosted award-winning late-night comedy shows. She is also known for her performances with Charlie Hall in a comedy cabaret called Aging Disgracefully. Additionally, Collins recently published her first book, Confessions of a Working Girl or How to Get Laid (OFF).

Frank O’Donnell, inducted into Rhode Island’s Comedy Hall of Fame in 2014, has been delighting audiences with his stand-up comedy for over four decades. With experience opening for renowned acts such as Chicago and Michael Bolton, O’Donnell’s talents extend to writing jokes for comedy legends like Bob Hope and Jay Leno. He is also an accomplished actor, having performed in various professional and community theater productions. O’Donnell is the president of the Keri Anne O’Donnell Memorial Fund, dedicated to providing scholarships and grants to young performers.
