In an exciting development for travelers and history enthusiasts, a high-speed direct train service from Rome to Pompeii is now available, reducing travel time to under two hours. This new initiative, a collaboration between the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Italian State Railways, Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, aims to provide tourists and visitors with a quick and comfortable journey to the renowned archaeological site.
The official inauguration of the service took place on Sunday, July 16, with esteemed guests, including the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, the CEO of the FS Italiane Group, Luigi Ferraris, and the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, embarking on the inaugural journey from Rome’s Termini Station.
Prime Minister Meloni expressed her satisfaction with the project, recognizing its potential to enhance the allure of one of the world’s most popular archaeological destinations and boost tourism—a vital industry for Italy.
The dedicated Frecciarossa 1000 train, the flagship of the Trenitalia fleet, serves as a powerful tool for promoting tourism and culture, bringing the nation closer together by providing improved access to its rich historical assets.
Operating exclusively on Sundays, the Frecciarossa train departs from Roma Termini at 8:53 in the morning, arriving at Pompeii at 10:40. During the journey, passengers can enjoy a video clip streamed on the onboard monitors, providing insights into the captivating history of the ancient city of Pompeii. Upon arrival, a Pompeii Link shuttle bus awaits passengers to transport them directly to the archaeological site. The return journey departs at 18:40, arriving back at Roma Termini at 20:55.
The new high-speed service complements the existing 50 daily return Frecciarossa services running between Rome and Pompeii, offering travelers even more opportunities to explore a place where time stood still in 79 CE. Pompeii’s priceless archaeological heritage continues to intrigue and captivate millions of visitors annually.
