The Museum of Science, Boston, in collaboration with Boston Harbor City Cruises, has announced the much-anticipated return of the “Sea the Stars” boat cruises, providing a unique summer experience for astronomy enthusiasts and stargazers.
Embark on an extraordinary journey aboard the high-speed catamaran, where educators from the Museum of Science will serve as knowledgeable guides, unveiling the wonders of the night sky as the boat sails across Boston Harbor. With an unobstructed view of the celestial sphere, passengers will have the opportunity to trace constellations, explore our galaxy, and witness the awe-inspiring Perseid meteor shower, a captivating phenomenon occurring annually from mid-July to late August. Expert commentary will accompany the celestial voyage, complemented by engaging activities, videos, and informative content that will enhance passengers’ understanding of the cosmos.
Dani LeBlanc, the director of the Center for Space Sciences at the Museum of Science, expressed her excitement about the partnership with Boston Harbor City Cruises, stating, “Our renewed collaboration offers passengers a captivating and immersive experience to foster curiosity and deepen their understanding of the natural world and our connection to the cosmos. This unique opportunity allows our dedicated staff to share their profound love and passion for astronomy with a wider audience beyond the Charles Hayden Planetarium.”
As the sun sets, the three-hour boat cruise departs from Long Wharf in Boston, venturing away from the city lights to ensure optimal visibility of the night sky. It is important to note that in the event of rain or thick cloud cover, the cruise may be canceled due to limited stargazing opportunities.
Bob Lawler, Vice President & General Manager of Boston Harbor City Cruises, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Boston Harbor City Cruises is thrilled to collaborate with the esteemed Museum of Science and their knowledgeable educators from the Charles Hayden Planetarium to present a series of Sea the Stars Cruises this summer. We eagerly anticipate welcoming astronomy and space enthusiasts on board.”
