The majestic Nao Trinidad tall ship is set to make port at Provincetown’s iconic MacMillan Pier on Tuesday, August 29th, extending a warm invitation to the public for immersive tours until September 3rd.
The original Nao Trinidad holds a storied legacy as the flagship of the Magellan-Elcano expedition – an audacious sailing endeavor circumnavigating the globe between 1519 and 1522. Under the command of Ferdinand Magellan, this monumental voyage forged novel routes, uniting distant continents and oceans. Guiding a fleet of five vessels, the Nao Trinidad embarked on its odyssey from Seville, Spain, on August 10th, 1519, traversing the Atlantic to unveil new lands in Brazil, Argentina, the Mariana Islands, the Philippine Islands, Indonesia, Brunei, and Timor. While the Nao Trinidad itself didn’t return to Spain, the expedition’s crowning glory came through the successful global circumnavigation achieved by its companion ship, Victoria. This triumph remains a pivotal milestone in 16th-century maritime history, showcasing the indomitable spirit of exploration.
In 2018, the painstakingly accurate reconstruction of the Nao Trinidad, complete with its three masts and bowsprit, was finalized.
During its stay at Provincetown, the replica of Nao Trinidad will graciously welcome visitors from 10 am to 8 pm daily, situated at MacMillan Pier.
Tickets are priced at $15 for adults, $5 for children aged 5 to 12, and $35 for families (comprising 2 adults and up to 3 children). Children under five years of age are accorded complimentary admission.
